A unos metros del malecón, se encuentra esta playa que, con una extensión de 2 kilómetros de largo y es una de las más visitadas de este puerto.
Es llamada así, porque existió un panteón en ese lugar por iniciativa y opinión de un lugareño, se propuso llamarla playa del Sol, sin embargo la propuesta no hizo eco y siguió llamándose playa Los Muertos.
En el muelle, entre 1960 y 1970, era muy simple y de madera; por las necesidades del propio desarrollo de Vallarta y del lugar, y para dar cabida a embarcaciones más grandes se construyó uno de hormigón, pasando a ser de uso internacional, la profundidad varía, desde los 4.5 a 6 metros.
"LEYENDAS"
Una de las leyendas cuenta que hace muchos años en esta playa llegaban los piratas a desembarcar y a robar lo que podían en este puerto y a aprovecharse de los habitantes y constantemente había batallas, pero en una ocasión fue una mucho más grande, según cuenta la leyenda que se igualó a una guerra y como en esta batalla murieron muchas personas y piratas, le pusieron playa los muertos.
Otra leyenda cuenta que esta playa fue un cementerio y cuando se pobló la ciudad tuvieron que que construir otro alejado de la ciudad y el nombre se le quedo así por el cementerio que había en esa época.
La tercera leyenda menciona que hace mucho tiempo cuando Puerto Vallarta era solo un puerto pequeño los piratas venían a esconder sus tesoros, pero un día de luna llena, el capitán que era el único que sabía dónde estaba el tesoro ya no pudo recordar, y todas sus riquezas quedaron sepultadas, al ver que no encontraba nada, mando a los demás piratas a buscar. Después de largas horas un buen pirata encontró una gran fortuna, era el tesoro. Al ver que era demasiado no quería compartirlo, después todos los piratas se agarraron luchando por el botín, según cuenta la leyenda nadie sobrevivió y al ver tantos muertos le llamaron Playa los Muertos

Actualmente esta recién remodelado y se ha convertido en uno de los iconos mas emblemáticos y visitados por miles de turistas que nos visitan en Puerto Vallarta.
